Hola Amigos!

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to explore the Dominican Republic for my host agency’s conference at the lovely Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda (details following). I then continued on my stay for a few days with some other travel advisors and we did some excursions and toured several properties in the Punta Cana area.

This was the first time that I got to meet some of my fellow travel advisors in person and I cannot explain how much value I got from this. We have meet regularly over Zoom but to be face-to-face and get to know all about everyone’s business, family and travel experience was amazing. I am so lucky to be surrounded by such amazing and talented people.

AND, it was also the first time for me to visit the Dominican Republic and let me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised! Especially up near Miches, about 1 ½ hours north of the Punta Cana airport – it is very remote with a beautiful jungle atmosphere and mountainous landscape. We also got to visit the stunning “Round Mountain” aka Montana Redonda (pictured above) which is quite an adventure to the top but let me tell you, the view is worth it!

That is what I love about travel – exploring new places and meeting new people…it’s invigorating!

MICHES PLAYA ESMERALDA

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

If you are looking for off the beaten path, than this eco-chic Resort located in an untouched, pristine destination, tucked away from the rest of the world is the spot.

Club Med’s Miches Playa Esmeralda is located near the small fishing village of Miches in a very secret hideaway surrounded by a lush palm grove and tropical forest.

This luxury all-inclusive resort is divided into four boutique villages:

Archipelago (pictured above) – there are only 18 boutique suites in this adults only section and it is closest to the main pool and beach. This is perfect for honeymooners or any romantic getaway as you have a private balcony, outdoor shower and private pool with breakfast delivered…you may never leave your room.

Caribbean Paradise – bright colors and character await you in this Latin themed village which caters more to adults as well.

Emerald Jungle – this is another adults only section of the resort with a more peaceful and tranquil atmosphere in mind. You are embedded in the jungle with a yoga pavilion and adults only pool with a swim-up bar.

Explorer Cove – this is the family-friendly section of the resort which has a majority of the kid’s activities nearby and boy, do they have the facilities for kids activities!

Club Med properties are perfect for the health focused and active adventure type. Almost all of the Club Med’s are family-friendly (including Miches) and offer many activities for everyone: archery, huge acrobatic equipment, tennis courts, kid pools with slides, yoga, kayaking and dancing…lots and lots of dancing. You can take lessons during the day and then after every nightly show, they will host a dance party for you to put those moves into action.

To me, the stand out was the service and the food at this resort. Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic, this resort in particular has had to close and reopen two times. The staff was very accommodating and attentive to all of our needs. They were especially kind and gracious to have visitors back on their beautiful property as it has been a tough time in the travel industry.

The three restaurants on-site each offered their own character to the resort. Coco Plum is a seafood lover’s paradise, Coal & Copper Steakhouse serves fine wine, steak and lobster and Cayuco is their main buffet restaurant. The food was not only delicious but the ingredients were incredibly fresh. They created custom ordered detox juices, wonderful salads and garden-fresh stir-fries and so much more. And did I mention the gelato wheel? A spinning freezer that had multiple gelatos daily…yes, please!
