My favorite phase of travel may surprise you…

June 19, 2024

Let’s Go!

I don’t know about you but one of my most favorite times of traveling is actually the pre-trip excitement phase.

There is just something about the days leading up to an amazing trip that you have dedicated alot of time and money to that can never be duplicated.

A strong combination of nerves and sheer exhilaration start to set in about 2 weeks prior and ramp up until the actual departure occurs.

Like many of our clients, we are heading out of the office on a long-awaited family trip to Ireland. This will be my kids first European adventure and I cannot wait to explore the Emerald Isle together and spend some dedicated time as a family.

Life gets so busy and we have been so committed to our client’s travels, that I am thrilled to be able to pay it forward to my children and give them a gift of a lifetime.

Because that is what travel is…a gift!

I may be most excited about our upcoming stay at the Lodge at Ashford Castle…

Property Spotlight: The Lodge at Ashford Castle

The Lodge at Ashford Castle is a characterful four-star country house that offers exceptional value and so many clever rooming solutions for families. Guests that are fortunate enough to stay here also benefit from the many world-class activities that the Ashford Estate is famous for.

Located in the charming village of Cong, 45 minutes to Galway and 60 minutes to the heart of Connemara National Park, the Lodge at Ashford Castle is well placed to explore this incredible region. Typically, guests enjoy this property for 3+ nights, so they can hike or cycle in the Natural Park, take scenic drives on the Wild Atlantic Way, enjoy boat experiences on the lough, and enjoy engaging experiences with our favorite local artisans. Clients enjoy our Galway food walking tours on their itinerary as they arrive at Ashford, or as they depart.

Originally built in 1865 by the Guinness family, the property has a storied history and inspiring views over peaceful Lough Corrib, one of Ireland’s largest lakes. The service is relaxed, warm, and attentive. Featuring 64 rooms and suites, The Lodge at Ashford Castle lends itself perfectly to family and multigenerational travel. Family suites can accommodate up to five guests, and up to seven with the addition of a Deluxe room, creating a private access family suite (connecting a Quay Suite and a Deluxe Room). The décor is a fun, modern twist on traditional country house style boasting a mix of eclectic art.

The Ashford estate is an authentic, cultural playground for every member of the family. Activities include everything from Ireland’s first school of falconry, fishing on Lough Corrib, a morning walk with the resident wolfhounds, and horse riding. We especially love their remarkable Hawk Walks, guided strolls through enchanting grounds with awe-inspiring, up-close interaction. If you are a guest of the Lodge at Ashford Castle, you gain access to all of these activities. We definitely suggest booking in advance!

The newest addition to the Ashford Estate is Éalú (the Irish word for escape), including a beautiful pool that is so welcoming for families. This leisure facility allows guests to connect and escape from everyday life featuring a steam room, sauna, gym, state-of-the-art fitness studio and therapy room. Located next to the Lodge at Ashford Castle, guests have complimentary access throughout their stay.

Few places reflect our passion for All-Season Travel than this landscape as the stunning scenery shifts through the seasons. Cooler weather ushers out Ireland’s summer crowds and welcomes in seasons that feature cozy pubs, crackling fires, and comfy Irish sweaters. Clients who have flexibility will also most definitely enjoy the value that comes with travel in Fall, Winter, and early Spring.
